NURSING/ MIDWIFERY AND MODERN POLITICS IN GHANA

Nursing/ Midwifery and modern politics in Ghana!_

Why did our Profession been treated like this?

I am Tenadu Ebenezer. A registered community nurse (RCN) and currently a rotational nurse at Holy family hospital- Nkawkaw, Eastern region of mother Ghana.

This post is to register my displeasure on the way politicians are treating nurses in Ghana.

It is a constitutional right for all individuals to belong to a political party of their choice for which nurses/ midwives are not an exception.

Other professionals like doctors, teachers, pharmacists etc enjoys equal rights and enjoys even greater portion of the national cake from these politicians but why are nurses/ midwives always the sacrificial lambs?

Nurses/ midwives are psychologically and physically abused by these politicians almost all the time.

The millitary and security agencies equally enjoys their portion of the national cake and they do that in peace.

Who have ever seen any of these security agencies in uniform champaining for party A or party B?

The nursing uniform is now equal to a piece of rag as it has lost its value in the face of the public.

Nures now openly champaign in their uniforms and nobody seems to care.

I want policticians to treat the uniform with dignity because it is for a particular group of people who saves lives and are to remain nutural political grounds.

Our pledge is to save lives irrespective of their race, colour, creed, political or social status.

Why do you politicians organise nurses/mmidwives in uniform to meet you?

Why do you politicians design bill boards and puts nurses on the board supporting your party?

We need the dignity of the uniform back so please if you want nurses to meet you, they should do that off their uniforms before you meet them.

To school principals who accepts this attitude due to your political affiliations. This piece is to tell you that its highly unprofessional and must be avoided to restore the dignity of the nursing uniform.

Now to those semstresses who equally sows their uniform using the nursing fabric, why dont you use the millitary fabric as well?

I am of the view that strict measures should be taken to desist people from using the fabric for other professional works aside nursing. This will help curb misidentity of people who uses the uniform to twerk and do all sort of unprofessional acts which discredits the profession in the end.

Nursing and midwifery council of Ghana which happens to regulate the conduct of all nurses and midwives, this is a humble call to your high office.

Please review rules governing the use of the nursing uniform to prevent other professionals from using the same fabric for their own purposes.

Recalcitrant nurses / midwives who flaunts the rules should equally face severe sanction to serve as deterent for others. I am sure with this initiative, the nursing uniform will regain its dignity and command the necessary respect before the public.

Thank you for your time and please share to spread the news.

Thank you for that write up l,honestly its so disheartening to see a nurses who areas hasn't been paid in uniform running after a presidential convoy, the profession has lost it's dignity in the eyes of Ghanaians, but this is caused by the ladies who just wantto wear the uniform but not for the love of the profession
